Room Revamp #1 - Bookshelf Storage

Hey there!
So it's finally summer and although we are in the midst of a heatwave here in the UK, I've been spending the past few days reorganising my room and getting a few items to make it more "me" and summery!

This series has been in the works for a few months now (thanks to Pinterest making me jealous of peoples' perfect rooms) and I've been trying to find places to put things to make the space look neater. When Storage King* contacted me to ask if I would like to collaborate with them on their campaign "My Smart Student Storage Tips", I had a light bulb moment. Like seriously. I was in the shower then BOOM. Idea.  My bookshelf is not that full, as I'm also updating my books from YA to more "grown up" works, so I came up with a way that you can your empty bookshelf space as extra storage.

Bookshelves can be used to store:

  • Books (obviously)
  • Bags
  • Hats
  • Shoes

as wells as them being a great place for some decor!

As you can see, I'm a bit of a tomboy, so I like my snapbacks! I'm a little tight on space in my closet (but I never have anything to wear, smh), so I put this black and white snapback that I don't really wear on display. I think it's better of making my shelf look good than stuffed in the back of my closet!

Again, space is a little tight in my room and I'm always misplacing my bag. Honestly, I hate bags. But I've tried carring my oyster card, coins, phone, earphones, hand cream and lip balm in my skinny jeans and I was walking and looking funny for the whole day. So yeah, I gave into bags. I've put the bag I use the most on my shelf so that it's accessible at all times!

I'm not going to lie. I'm a shoe hoarder. Because one day I feel like dressing like a barbie doll, and the next day I'm all about sweats and sneakers, I have quite a large collection of shoes. These range from high heels to high tops, ballet flats, sandals, canvas shoes, you name it, I probably got it! Except for espadrilles. Just...no.
I don't wear most of my shoes anyways, and they're piling up in my closet. I found that putting a few up on my shelf make a good display. The downside is that you'll have to explain to people why you have shoes on your bookshelf, but I don't mind. I'm already strange anyway.

As for general decoration and "revamping, I've put three pictures above my shelf (not my house, so I can't drill hooks for frames. Sad, I know) as well as putting some items on top of the book shelf:

  • A Speaker
  • Candles
  • A picture frame
  • A (fake) flower pot...so it looks all nature-y, ya feel me?

I'm quite pleased with the first step in updating my room for the summer(apart from that awkward thing on the left side of the shelf that I hope you do not notice). I'm currently working on my dressing table, and then I will move onto desk space.

My room is quite large and is filled with (mostly) unnecessary but sentimental items that I can't let go of. I may be moving away for uni, and I will need extra space too keep all my stuff as my family will be moving away soon, so I can't leave them at home. Storage King is a great option, as they won't give me a huge ship-sized container for a couple of pairs of shoes, but will give me storage suited to my needs. For more information on self-storage solutions visit their website here

Can't wait to show you what else I'm doing to my room! I hope you enjoyed this post!

Until Next Time,
Peace and Love
K xx
